Tues 20 Sep at 5:00pm in the Chapman Cultural Center West Wing Conference Room.
Sat 24 Sep at 2:00pm at the Artists Collective | Spartanburg
This plans to be an exciting opportunity for artists to open their doors to the public and invite visitors and collectors to come view their artwork, learn about the creative process, and purchase work for sale.
This event is the first of what we hope will be an annual tour that helps to introduce the amazing, hard-working artists of this community to the public. Because this will be a large undertaking, the following arts organizations are collaborating to make this happen:
There are numerous accomplished artists in the Upstate region of South Carolina, and now is the time to connect this variety of talent with the community of Spartanburg County. It is also time to guide the public at large to these artisans, and highlight the wonderful range of art and craft works being made in the region. Open Doors Studio Tour will provide artists located in Spartanburg County the opportunity to share their creative workspace with the visiting public by way of a dynamic open studio tour weekend event. This self-guided tour will have participating artists’ studios on a map, brochure, and a website. The 2-day weekend open studio event is free and open to the public. Visiting community members will be able to purchase work, view educational demonstrations and visit with the artists in person, in their workspaces.
The tour is intended for professional working artists who reside and/or work in Spartanburg County. Participating artists will have their studios open from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Saturday, April 22, and from 12-5 P.M. on Sunday, April 23.
The focus of the Open Doors Tour is to support the work of area artists and to heighten artistic and cultural awareness within our community. The Open Doors Studio Tour is a chance to showcase the uniqueness and diversity of our arts community and to highlight creativity in the Spartanburg area. We are looking for artist participants who work in a variety of media and who love to share their creative process and work.
In addition, a few key locations such as the Artists Collective Spartanburg, Mayfair Studios, the Artist Guild, and the Chapman Cultural Center will serve as central locations to view their current exhibitions and obtain Open Doors brochures.
The Open Doors event will be professionally promoted on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and the web. Traditional print marketing materials such as posters and a brochure that includes a map will be distributed widely around Spartanburg County, along with print ads placed in local publications. Participating artists will also help by personal promotion on their outlets.
The Artists Collective Spartanburg will host a preview exhibit of all juried participating artists in the Solomon Gallery, and a reception for artists and sponsors will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023.
There will be a 30% commission on sales made from the exhibition in the gallery. (Artists will keep all proceeds from work sold in their studio spaces during the tour.)
