My Sharona
By Vivianne Carey
“My Sharona” is named after the seductive 1979 song by the Knack and this piece darkly addresses predators, temptation, secrets, abuse and youth. This sculpture was created during the trial and conviction of Jeffrey Epstein, the financier charged with sex trafficking of underaged young women.
The ballerina garment represents a fragile creature within an armament of lively red broken, wired and fused glass; she is also powerful, suggested by her corset armature and Medusa-like tutu flounce made of forged steel with a lacy steel umbrella that does not protect her from the storm.
Introspective and reflective, it was devised and created by an empowered woman with over 40 years of practice in her craft.
