About Brianna Greer
I am an abstract painter, and art director based in Spartanburg, South Carolina. I have earned my Master’s in Strategic Design from Furman University and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of South Carolina Upstate. During my free time, I enjoy walking on trails, overthinking, and creating the perfect glass of tea.
My paintings are inspired by the theories of Cubism, Kandinsky, and Lois Mailou Jones. This ten-piece series helped me work through my thoughts and interactions with the performative aspects of Western society’s interactions with black women. By presenting the duality of the black woman’s experience by displaying who she is vs how she is seen by society. With this series I want the audiences to understand that black women are multifaceted and shouldn’t be limited based on myths. And how race and gender distort our views of humans by lowering them to myths.
