Patchwork Heart #8
The Patchwork Hearts are cut-up paintings given new life through connection, love and generational wisdom. Craving a new layer to my process, I worked off and on through this series with my grandmother who is also a life long maker and artist. Through our time together, I was able to share the most vulnerable stages of my process and ask for help. I picked up far more than simple seamstress skills as I learned a much deeper family history of women creators who have used their work as a model of care taking and love giving and, ultimately self healing. I unknowingly left my comfort zone and completely immersed myself in hers, intertwining her creativity through quilting and sewing with my love for painting and exploration.
“The Patchwork Heart” by Lucy Boland
The patchwork heart is the window behind the soul. The center of our innermost being. It’s the sum of the broken pieces of our unique stories woven together imperfectly to make up our most authentic self. The patchwork heart is the cycle of heartbreak and healing that no human can escape. The brave are the ones who choose to love again and again. The Patchwork Heart is the connective tissue in our collective consciousness that allows compassion to rise.
